Host a Fruit or Nut Tree

Fruit and nut trees tend to take 3-5 years to mature before they are producing. We don't have that kind of time so will need them to be productive as soon as they hit the ground in a year or so.

The good news is that these trees can be matured in the buckets they are purchased in at the nursery.

Help us grow by purchasing a tree now and keeping it alive until we have our land and can settle it into its permanent home.

We will post tips and guidance on our Instagram page to help you keep the tree thriving over the next year, including if and when to transplant to a bigger bucket, pruning, etc.

Once you have your tree(s), let us know and we can share a pic of your tree on our Instagram page as our community grows.

Filberts (aka Hazelnuts) and Olives

Filberts need a friend to produce nuts and they are selective in their company. Lewis and Eta are two varieties that get along well. Look forward to these nuts raw, roasted, or mixed with chocolate to make a delicious spread.

Did you know olives grow in the Willamette Valley? Unlike filberts, they don't need a friend to make fruit and there are a number of varieties that work with our climate. Look for these to be pressed into oil and cured for snacking.

Stone and Other Fruit

There are as many options here as there are delicious fruits to eat - plums, cherries, peaches - you name it! We'll definitely need some apple and pear varieties good for making hard cider, but otherwise feel free to host the tree whose fruit you love the most. Many of these varieties can make fruit without a friend (self-propagating) so feel free to mix and match.

Persimmons and Grape Vines

Both of these fruits have a specific destiny. Grapes will be used to make wine for a our Managed Alcohol Program (and for sale to you!) and Persimmons will be grown to make hoshigaki, Japanese dried persimmons.
